About Me

HI!
MY NAME IS STEFAN,

I am a teacher of German as a Foreign Language and I help students from all over the world to improve their German so that they quickly feel comfortable speaking a new language in their everyday life and are able to work, study and talk with their friends in German.

I enjoy hiking in the mountains.

I feel a deep love for languages. For me, languages are not only the possibility to express experiences, decisions or emotions, they always open up insights into a whole new world of ideas.

As I wanted to share my enthusiasm for languages with others, I became a German teacher. Since 2016 I have been accompanying and supporting people from the most diverse cultural as well as professional backgrounds in successfully learning the German language.

Every time my students pass an exam, master a job interview without problems or give a presentation at university or at work, I am deeply moved.

I like cuddling with my cat Elena.

I’m open and always excited to learn something new. I actually got my University degree in Latin, Archeology and Egyptology. However, my journey has led me through several courses and further education away from the artifacts to working with people.

Among my students there are architects and hairdressers, artists and engineers, programmers and sales trainers and many other professions. Everyone has their individual needs and ideas, they come to me with very different life situations.

In order to keep up to date with research and development in foreign language teaching, I started a further training course for German teachers at the Goethe Institute and the Friedrich Schiller University Jena in 2021. In this way, my students benefit from the most modern approaches in didactics and methodology.

My favourite German authors are
Herta Müller and Hermann Hesse.

I like being creative, flexible, and self-employed. That’s why I feel so comfortable in Berlin, where I’ve been living since 2006. The people I meet here are genuinely interesting and truly inspiring. My district Kreuzberg is one of the greatest. Originally, I come from the beautiful region around Heidelberg in the southwest of Germany. I studied in Lisbon for a semester and also lived in Australia for a short time.

In addition to German, I also speak English and Portuguese, have language learning experience in the Romance languages Spanish, French and Italian and have recently started dealing with the Slavic languages, specifically Macedonian. I’ve also dipped into Turkish, Arabic and Japanese grammar and sentence structure. All this helps me a lot to better understand the linguistic backgrounds of my students and to design my lessons according to their individual needs.

My lessons take place online or face-to-face. Then I meet up with my students in cafés, parks, at home or even at work during lunch breaks. I always aim for a good balance between quiet moments of intense learning and understanding (theory) and an interactive linguistic participation in real-life situations (practice).
